Carvers' Projects

In an effort to give some assistance to beginning carvers, this page will show step-by-step pictures of carving projects. I am asking for your help in sending me pictures of your projects-bowls, spoons, masks, relief carvings, sculptures, signs, carved letters, totems, whatever-as they are being carved.
I will give a free bent knife or straight knife to everyone who helps out with this. All you have to do is send me the pictures of your project (and any needed explanatory text).
This is what I am asking for: If you have a project you are starting and would consider helping, take pictures of the piece from start (a chunk of wood) to finish, showing enough steps along the way so that an inexperienced carver can follow and understand the progression of steps. Too many pictures is good. I will take editorial privilege and choose the photos I think fit best and revise them (cropping, resizing, etc.). I can add explanatory text as you provide it.
A few more things about this:
1. I would like to include the name (& city, state) of the carver for each project.
2. If you are going to start taking pictures, please keep in mind that consistent perspective is important. Try to take pictures from the same angle each time. It is much easier for the viewer to understand and follow the steps. Maybe take pictures from two perspectives each photo shoot.
3. Try to also be consistent with lighting and background each photo shoot.
4. Tools in use on the project should be shown as much as possible. This includes initial steps which might be use of a bandsaw or other power tools. The goal is to help the viewer understand how the carving was done, from start to finish.
5. In all fairness, the free knife will only be for projects that I end up putting on my site, but I intend to be very open minded about the projects I include.

So how about it-why not start taking a bunch of pictures of your next project (including the uncut starting piece) and maybe it will end up on my site, helping out some new carvers!

My carving knives are intended for serious wood carvers. They are razor sharp and can be very dangerous if used improperly. Please be careful and don't allow young people to use them unsupervised.

Your satisfaction is fully guaranteed. If you have a problem of any kind with one of my knives, please let me know. I will make it right with you.
